Our Producers

At Weetons we are the purveyors of fine food & drink. Our ethos lays in our unerring passion for premium produce, supplied by a select few, small-scale, high-quality independent producers (the more local the better). Yet we also know that in order to satisfy the desires of our discerning customers we need to search further afield for those extra-special products that make the Weetons experience so unique. As such you will find our shelves brimming with an abundance of world food products specifically sourced to complement and enhance our local offering. But whether from near or far one thing you can be certain, the provenance of all we offer is second to none as we take pride in knowing, not only where it has come from but also who has produced it. And here are just a few of our trusted, premium suppliers to whet your appetite.

R&JR & J

R&J is based in Kirkby Malzeard, only 15 miles from Harrogate, and was founded in 1978 by Robert and Jo Atkinson, both from farming families and both very much still involved in the everyday running of the business today. Their son Ryan, who now manages the business, is the fifth generation of the family to be involved in farming.

R&J is one of the very few catering butchers in the country to maintain their own herd, and an informal cooperative of suppliers who have all been chosen for their focus on taste, free grazing and animal welfare.

Weetons is really proud to work with R&J, knowing that we are guaranteeing our customers the best quality local meat available. Our Head Butcher Colin, has worked closely with MD Ryan Atkinson to agree a specification and quality that is second to none for Weetons customers, and we thought it would be interesting to hear Ryan’s top tips on how best to enjoy it.

Shop Food Cupboard

"5 years ago we were looking for the perfect gift for our friend and couldn't find what we were looking for. We wanted something practical & personal that would remind them of their special day forever, and so Marbletree was born," says Jayne Little, one half of the brother and sister team that run Marbletree.

"We design, create, and source products that are carefully hand crafted from beautiful quality marble, wood and Lake District slate and we personalise our gifts in our Cumbrian workshop," adds Chris. "Our boards are edge polished and engraved using a traditional V cut method so that they will stay looking fabulous for years to come."

Weetons, who have been working with them since they started in 2009, stock many of Marbletree’s beautiful designs, including marble salt pigs, wine coolers, pestle & mortars and a wonderful range of coasters and boards. They make fantastic presents and are a thoughtful gift for anyone with a passion for food and quality craftsmanship.

loose birds of harome

If chickens could choose where to live, they'd definitely opt for the health-spa standards of comfort that can be found at Loose Birds of Harome!

Husband and wife team Janet and Paul Talling rear their chickens in grass paddocks, giving the birds plenty of space to roam and lots of lovely grass to feed on (which produces high levels of the fatty acid Omega-3 and gives their meat with a distinctive golden hue). This is a chicken like you have never tasted before. Furthermore, as an animal welfare and behavioural scientist, Janet has made it her mission to ensure their birds all live happy, healthy and most importantly, stress-free life. Loose birds of Harome have raised the bar of farming this humble bird and the results are there for the tasting.

With just 18 acres of land to harvest, the cream of the asparagus crop is in such demand that almost all of it is destined for the plates of discerning customers in Yorkshire! Need we say more?

Chilli Sauces, Spicy Pickles, Chilli Nuts and Stuff made by hand. A family business based in Holmfirth led by husband and wife team Guy and Carly Thorpe. With over 20 years in the catering industry, Yorkshire lad Guy set out to replicate the flavour of smoky barbeque after a trip to the US and By'eck! Chilli Sauce was born. Guy crafts in small batches to ensure quality to create their range of chilli sauces, spicy pickles and nuts which combine that traditional smoky American barbecue experience with a bit of Yorkshire magic. When not chopping, Guy spends his time indulging his barbecue habit, nurturing his pinball obsession, and progressing his mission to play all the crazy golf courses in the UK. His wife Carly is a construction lawyer by day, but spends her spare time keeping Guy out of trouble. Her favourite activity is eating (which could be why she married a chef) – unsurprisingly, all products are taste tested by Carly.
